December in Klagenfurt
Outdoors activities are admittedly limited at this time of the year. It’s cold, wet and the sun disappears early, provided it comes out in the first place. Streets become decidedly subdued. It seems as if the old traditional song about the peace and quiet around the lake (“Is schon still uman See”) plays out in real life. And yet, there are events that are anything but quiet. We checked out what’s happening and can suggest some interesting options – with compliments of the season:
Advent with a twist
During December, Klagenfurt visitors will encounter more than the inner city Xmas market and shopping activities. The Jugendstiltheater (JUST) ,for instance, presents a production of “iHAL. The love of the computer.” (“iHAL. Die Liebe des Computers.“) In this sci-fi production, a computer falls in love with his user. Several weekly performances at 8:00 pm.
On 19 and 20 December, the Jazz Club Kammerlichtspiele features two concerts by Naked Lunch Reduced. Accompanied by a classy cocktail, the sounds of the best known indie band will be sure to go down a treat.
Furthermore, the Museum of Modern Art, Carinthia offers weekly guided tours through its current exhibits. Every Sunday at 11:00 am.
A musical start to the New Year
Before we farewell the old year, the people of Klagenfurt will dust off their party shoes and celebrate New Year’s Eve in style – in the inner city at Neue Platz which will be transformed into a festive New Year’s Eve Boulevard. The traditional New Year’s Eve concert will take place at an unusual location, the Stadtpfarrturm – the imposing tower of the St Egyd Parish Church. Up and coming guitarist Carina Lindner will breathe new life into the tower with music of Johann Sebastian Bach or Mauro Giuliani. Climb the tower on 31 December at 6:00 pm and enjoy a magical concert at lofty heights.
We at Hotel Geyer wish you a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year 2019!
